Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell was recently given a taste of Olympic fever when he visited the site where the London 2012 Games will be held. With less than six months to go until the opening ceremony, Mr Mundell was given a tour of the Olympic site to see first-hand how the work and effort put in by thousands of people is already paying off.
He has previously been to visit Barr Construction, the Glasgow-based firm which built the Olympic basketball stadium, and met with staff there who had worked on delivering the project.
Commenting after his visit, Mr Mundell said: "The Olympic year is going to be a great success for every part of the UK, including Scotland. Barr Construction has played a key role in delivering the Olympic facilities on time and on budget; they are a great example of just one of more than 100 Scottish companies doing well from the Games, and the economic growth they are bringing to the whole of the UK.
“I was particularly interested to discover that the fabricated steel in the basketball area was produced in Dumfries and Galloway – that gives the whole region a special link to the Games and is certainly something we can all be proud of."
