Local MP David Mundell has requested a meeting with the Care Inspectorate over the possible closure of Dalarran Care Home.
The Langholm based nursing home, run by Welcare Homes, houses 12 residents and employs around 25 part and full-time staff.
Following concerns raised by the Care Inspectorate over the faculties provided by the home, fears have been raised that it may close within the next four months.
Mr Mundell is worried about the loss of the home to the community and the disruption elderly residents would face in having to move. The Dumfriesshire MP hopes that by working with the Inspectorate it will be possible to ensure that residents do not have to move against their wishes and that all possible options are explored to allow residents to remain in the Langholm area.
Commenting Mr Mundell said: “There is a lot of concern and confusion around the situation at Dalarran and this is obviously very distressing for the residents and their families. I am meeting the Care Inspectorate to make sure that they are fully aware of the circumstances in Langholm, where alternative accommodation for affected residents is not readily available. I want to make it clear that no one should be forced to move against their will or in conditions of distress.
“The continued focus must be on the existing patients’ needs and all the evidence suggests that moving elderly people is not a good thing. In the event Dalarran has to close, everyone involved must ensure that the wider options are fully explored and ensure that residents who want to remain in the Langholm area can do so,” he added.
