Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell paid a visit to Syracuse University during a trip to the US last week and met up with the Lockerbie Academy pupils undertaking this year's scholarships, Fergus Barrie and Jessica Liddon, and the scholarship programme administrator Judy O'Rourke. The Scholarship programme sees two pupils annually from Lockerbie Academy undertaking a years study at Syracuse.
Mr Mundell said: "It was great to meet up with Fergus and Jessica and hear about their experiences at the Syracuse. The scholarship programme is a unique opportunity for young people from the Lockerbie area to broaden their horizons and develop new skills. All the participants I have met have found it a life changing experience and Fergus and Jessica were no exceptions.
“This programme is the one good thing for the town to have come out of the Lockerbie Air Disaster and a lot of the credit for that must go to Judy O'Rourke at Syracuse University who has worked so hard to make the students welcome and foster the links between Syracuse and Lockerbie. As ever, it was a pleasure to meet up with her and other staff at Syracuse."
