Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell has given his support to the newly launched “Neigh Horse Meat Here” campaign.
Food producers, butchers, independent retailers, farmers’ markets, cafes and retailers in Dumfries & Galloway, supported by Savour the Flavours, have joined together to launch a customer information campaign in response to the horse meat scandal.
The ‘Neigh Horse Meat Here’ leaflets and posters highlight the importance of Dumfries & Galloway as a livestock rearing region and explain how traceability within Scotland’s meat industry mean that butchers and other meat retailers can provide the full history of each piece of meat they sell.
The local MP said: “The best thing people can do to ensure the quality of their food, and guarantee they know where it comes from, is to buy locally. We are really lucky in this part of the world to have so many quality producers and this is an excellent opportunity for people to support them.”
