Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell has welcomed news that celebrity chef Marco Pierre White is to launch his first Scottish restaurant in Dumfries.
The Michelin star holder is joining forces with the Aston Hotel in Dumfries to bring his Wheeler's of St James's brand north of the border next month.
Mr Pierre White said he had been looking for the right Scottish site for some time. His new restaurant is expected to create 10 new jobs and represents a £400,000 investment.
Mr Mundell said the announcement was great news for the town and the surrounding area. “New jobs and significant investments in local businesses is always welcome. Tourism is an important industry in Dumfriesshire and news that a chef of this calibre has chosen the town for his first Scottish restaurant can also help keep this area on the tourist map,” he added.
