Clydesdale MP David Mundell has welcomed clarity over the future location of the main post box in Biggar following the recent relocation of the Post Office.
The local MP has been contacted by a number of local residents who wanted to make sure that the post box would be moved to outside the new Post Office.
After looking into the situation Mr Mundell has now received confirmation that Royal Mail and the Post Office have been working together to resolve the issue, and a new post box will hopefully be operational outside the new Post Office by the New year at the latest.
Mr Mundell has also taken this opportunity to remind postal service users that the current post box at the old Post Office remains in full use despite the old Post Office shop being up for let.
Commenting Mr Mundell said: “I know there has been some confusion over the location and the continued status of the main post box in the town following the relocation of the Post Office. After being contacted by a number of constituents I have been in touch with the Post Office and Royal Mail who have confirmed that they are in the process of finalising plans to move the post box, and this should take place by the New Year at the latest. In the meantime, the post box at the old Post Office remains in full service and a notice has now been put up to keep customers informed.”
He added: “Inevitably there is always a little bit of disruption when changes like this are made, but at the end of the day it is a small price to pay to secure the future of the Post Office in the town.”
