MP David Mundell has welcomed Government help to increase spending on capital spending on roads and schools in Scotland which he hopes will be of benefit in Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale.
This followed a government announcement of its long-term plan to repair and update Britain’s infrastructure, which includes extra cash for Scotland – handing the Scottish Parliament the opportunity to focus spending on infrastructure projects that support growth.
Mr Mundell said: “This increase in funding could make a real difference to all of us who live in this regions– building the roads and helping fund the school improvements we need. The Scottish Parliament should invest this money in projects that will support growth and jobs. I will continue to make the case for the South of Scotland to get its fair share of this money and I hope that we can see some progress on roads such as the A75, A76 and A7.”
“Britain is in a global race, competing with countries investing billions in their infrastructure. In the past, we stood still while they moved forward. The UK Government has made good progress since 2010 to reverse that trend and these new plans build on that progress and deliver for the hardworking people and families in the South of Scotland,” he added.
