Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed news that the Gold Post Box in Peebles is here to stay.
Royal Mail have confirmed that all 111 of the post boxes which were painted gold in the home towns of successful Olympians and Paralympians would remain as part of the Games’ legacy.
Across the country all of the gold boxes have received a fresh coat of gold paint and a plaque to permanently remind residents and visitors of the special link to London 2012.
The local MP believes that the box has become an important feature in the town and is pleased that it will remain as a permanent marker of Scott Brash’s exceptional achievement.
The former Newlands Primary and Peebles High School pupil, along with teammates in Great Britain's show jumping team which also included Nick Skelton, Ben Maher and Peter Charles, claimed the superb victory at Greenwich Park last summer picking up the gold medal for the event.
Commenting Mr Mundell said: “The gold post box is a special reminder of the Olympic legacy here in Peebles and it is great news to find out that it is here to stay. The special plague commemorating Scott Brash’s achievement is particularly welcome and I am pleased there will be a lasting tribute to him here at the heart of the community. A year on from the games it is nice to look back and remember the excitement, particularly of that victory which had such a strong local connection and of course here in Scotland to look forward to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”
