Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell has welcomed the decision by Carlisle City Council to refuse planning permission for a wind farm at Beck Burn on the Solway Moss.
The application submitted by EDF Energy Renewables was turned down on the grounds of the noise budget being reached within the 50km zone of Eskdalemuir Seismological Recording Station.
EDF have now submitted a new application to retain the 60 metre anemometer, which would continue to measure wind speed on the Solway Moss.
Welcoming the news, Mr Mundell said: "I'm glad a decision has been reached in favour of local residents, but it is clear that the fight is far from over. Local people have expressed to me very strongly that they do not want to see this wind farm constructed, and were justifiably concerned about the impact of such a development on the local environment.
“Solway Moss was also an important battle site, and people were rightly worried that local heritage would suffer if these plans for Beck Burn were approved.
“Renewable energy is necessary, but not to the detriment of our countryside. I believe we have already taken our fair share of wind farm developments locally and I remain unconvinced that more can be justified."
