Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell, will launch a campaign to bring improved rail services to the area.
On Friday 11th January the local MP will launch a petition calling for better rail links as part of his continuing campaign to improve rail services from Lockerbie Station.
This follows a meeting last month with Scotland’s Transport Minister Keith Brown at which he pressed the case for better rail connections for his Dumfriesshire constituency.
Mr Mundell has already raised the issue of an early morning Lockerbie to Edinburgh service with Transpennine boss Vernon Barker, calling for it to be included in future timetables so that local people could get to Edinburgh before 9am.
Mr Mundell said: "I am determined to get the balanced timetable of services that Lockerbie needs, as well as making sure there are enough seats on the trains we currently have.
"At my meeting with Scotland's Transport Minister Keith Brown I pressed for his support in these discussions with Transpennine, and also asked him to consider including in the Scotrail franchise an early morning Carlisle to Edinburgh service which could stop at Lockerbie if Transpennine won't.
“I am lobbying again all the interested parties in the rail industry to make the case for more trains stopping at Lockerbie, and in particular for the early morning service to Edinburgh and late evening services from both Glasgow and Edinburgh so local people can enjoy entertainment opportunities in both cities.
“Keith Brown has asked me for evidence that local people would use these extra services and I am confident that this petition will provide that evidence,” added Mr Mundell.
