LOCAL MP David Mundell has welcomed plans to reduce speed limits on two sections of the A7 near Langholm, but hopes the limits could be further reduced.
Following a review of the country’s speed limits Transport Scotland has recommended reducing the existing 60mph limit.
They plan to reduce speed on the section from Newcastleton Road to Ewes Bridge to 40mph. And the section between Glenesk Road to Skippers Bridge will come down to 50mph.
“I welcome both these speed reductions on the A7,” said Mr Mundell, adding: “and think these proposals will help improve road safety on this important Borders route, but think they should consider reducing the Ewes Bridge section still further.”
Local councillor Denis Male agrees, saying this week: “It would make far more sense if they left the current 30mph and took it to Highmill Bridge and made that 40mph.”
