South Lanarkshire’s former depute provost, Beith Forrest, has been commended by Prime Minister David Cameron for a lifetime’s service to both the Conservative Party and the local community.
Beith, one of South Lanarkshire’s most respected politicians, stood down at the last election after a long career as councillor with both Clydesdale District and South Lanarkshire Councils.
A well known farmer, Beith followed in the footsteps of his mother and father, both long serving Lanarkshire councillors.
Now retired and living in Biggar, Beith is continuing his community service by joining Biggar Rotary.
He was recently honoured for his decades of public service by the Prime Minister when local MP David Mundell made a special presentation at a function in Clydesdale.
“I was delighted to hand over a framed letter signed by Prime Minister David Cameron commending former local Councillor and South Lanarkshire Deputy Provost Beith Forrest on his service not only to the Conservative Party, but also to the local community. It’s one of a number of accolades Beith has received since stepping down from the Council and, like the rest, well deserved,” said Mr Mundell.
