Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell and local councillor Graeme Tait have welcome news of planned road improvements near Moffat.
They raised constituents concerns following a serious road crash on the A701 at Moffat Lodge last month.
This left a 44 ton laden timber lorry upside down in a garden leaving both the driver and the house occupants extremely shaken.
After being contacted by constituents raising concerns about the condition of the road at this part of the A701 Mr Mundell and local councillor Graeme Tait contacted Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Now council officials have acknowledged that safety measures are required and will be carried out.
They have said that there is a need for anti-skid surfacing and improved road signing at this location. They have also promised that if the council has sufficient funds in the roads budget the work will be carried out in this financial year, but if not the work will be carried out in April.
Local MP David Mundell said: “This was a terrifying accident both for the lorry driver and the occupants of the house it almost hit. On this occasion no-one was seriously injured, but it is important that everything is done to ensure that this locus is as safe as can be for motorists, and for my constituents living nearby. I welcome news that D&GC are to take action to improve the road at this site.”
Local councillor Graeme Tait also raised the issue with his council calling for better signage or high friction surfacing to prevent further accidents.
He said this week: “I am glad that the council have accepted that some work is required here and hope these improvements can be carried out as quickly as possible to avoid any future crashes here.”
