Tweeddale MP David Mundell was delighted to hear the news that showjumper Scott Brash has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games in London.
Scott lives near Peebles and will be competing at his first Olympics later this summer in London’s Greenwich Park. Greenwich Park is London’s oldest Royal Park, dating back to 1433, and is part of the Greenwich World Heritage site and home to the Prime Meridian Line.
The 26 year old has been a regular competitor for Great Britain at the Nations Cup since 2010 and took his biggest Grand Prix win to date at the start of 2012 in Florida with his new ride Hello Sanctos.
Mr Mundell is urging his constituents to get behind this local hopeful and, like many people across the region he is now looking forward to seeing Scott in action. Mr Mundell feels it is fitting that the Borders will be represented in an equestrian event given its longstanding riding tradition.
Mr Mundell said: “It is fantastic to see someone from our area compete in the Olympic Games, here on home soil in London. Congratulations to Scott Brash on his outstanding personal achievement and to all those who have helped and supported him over the years. Local people will be delighted to have a sporting star from our region to cheer on later this summer and I am sure that, like me, they wish him every success.”
