Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell visited Lockerbie Library to find out more about the reading relay taking place across Dumfries and Galloway. Between now and 20th August readers are being encouraged to pass the book baton and recommend summer reads. Each library in the region will have a display of specially selected books chosen by staff and customers.
There are displays including reviews of the books on show to help encourage readers to try something new, perhaps an author or subject matter they would not normally consider. Mr Mundell believes the scheme is an excellent idea and has the potential to encourage people to read more and to branch out. Mr Mundell is also asking people who do not normally use the library to take the opportunity to join up and take advantage of the resources that are right on their door step.
Speaking after his visit to Lockerbie Library local MP David Mundell said: “This scheme is exactly what the Olympics are about. It encourages people to try something new and to share together the excitement of reading.
“Our local libraries in this region are a fantastic resource and I would like to see them used more. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the customer reviews are a great place to start.”
