Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell hailed the importance of promoting Disability Confident Employers as he attended an event in Dumfries.
The event, which was held by the Department for Work and Pensions at the Holiday Inn saw Mr Mundell give a speech, outlining the benefits of being a Disability Confident Employer and praising the work already done across Dumfries and Galloway.
Mr Mundell was joined at the event by fellow MP Alister Jack, with the Dumfries and Galloway Chamber of Commerce also in attendance as well as DWP managers and local businesses.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: “This was a really good event to be at to promote the benefits of being a Disability Confident Employer.
“There is a lot of fantastic work going on in Dumfries and Galloway and it was great to be able to discuss with the Usual Place about how they are helping the disabled into work.
“The Government has done a lot to help hundreds of thousands of disabled people into work but more needs to be done and that is exactly why it is important to bring together local employers and people to ensure that even more disabled people can be helped into employment.
"Alongside Alister Jack, I will be pushing for further support to be given to make it as easy as possible to get disabled people into work and that can be done in conjunction with the chamber of commerce and local employers, keen to become Disability Confident.
“I hope that in the not too distant future we can host another Disability Confident employer event in the area to help create further improvements for disabled people.”
