LOCAL MP David Mundell is demanding urgent action after yet another serious road accident on the A7 at Ewes.
This latest accident follows two others within the last five months, and two similar accidents at the location over the past five years.
This latest crash is understood to have occurred due to black ice.
The Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale is concerned at the number of accidents, pointing out that it is just luck that none have resulted in serious injury or fatalities. The crashes have all occurred beside a local house and causing damage to the property each time.
“It is unacceptable for my constituent to suffer the stress of coping with these accidents, and the resultant aftermath. So far he and his family have escaped from being physically involved, and I want to ensure it remains that way,” said Mr Mundell.
The location of the accidents is on an area of recently re-surfaced road on the A7 at Ewes, approximately 4.5 miles north of Langholm.
After the previous two accidents the MP asked Bear Scotland , who are responsible for the road, to look at the circumstances of the accidents in case urgent alterations or modifications were required.
“There have been other accidents at this locus over the past five years, one even involving a police officer. My constituent’s concern does not stop at what might happen to another driver caught out by conditions here, but for his own safety. If a lorry were involved it might well strike his house rather than end up in his garden, and with terrible consequences.”
“I have now contacted BEAR again, this time demanding that they take urgent action to ensure there are no more accidents at this location. This must now be a matter of priority for them,” added Mr Mundell.
